With the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, a significant decline in the travel and tourism industry has been observed, owing to the major risk of the coronavirus infection. To cater to this need of health safety, the travel website Booking.com has introduced measures relating to health safety which enables partner hotels to select the safety measures they are taking in different domains like social distancing, food safety, hygiene, sanitization, etc.
Partner Hotels can make a selection from a list of such health safety measures which will be displayed on the Booking.com website on their hotels’ page in a specially designed “health and safety box”. This new feature will bring greater levels of transparency and more information to the travelers so that they can make informed travel and accommodation decisions during these critical times of the COVID pandemic.
The country manager, India, Sri Lanka and Maldives at Booking.com, Ritu Mehrotra, said that “At Booking.com, our utmost concern is for the safety and security of our customers, partners and colleagues. As the situation evolves, we continue to update the support we provide, including enhanced transparency to consumers around health & safety information when booking on our platform. By introducing these safety measures we will help set accurate expectations and bring additional peace of mind for travellers when the time is right and they are ready to experience the world again.”
Travel restrictions and the fear of infection in people during this crucial time of coronavirus crisis has caused an average of 52 % increased decline in bookings when compared to previous year. Now, that the travel restrictions have been lifted during the “unlock” phase in majority of states in India, innovation like these might prove to be a big step in recovery of tourism and hospitality industry.
